Assalaamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakaathu everyone!

I love chocolate cake! I mean, who doesn’t? I 100% prefer it to vanilla cakes and I almost always buy it when I go to dessert parlours so I can eat in the car journey back. There are so many chocolate cake recipes out there, some better than others. But I think I have finally perfected my chocolate cake recipe. This homemade chocolate cake recipe is the best simple chocolate cake recipe for kids to give you the best sponge chocolate cake.

This classic chocolate cake recipe is moist and decadent. I paired it with a chocolate ganache, (don’t even get me started with what happened to my ganache), but you could pair with American buttercream or swiss meringue buttercream or even a plain vanilla frosting. I think the next time I make this I will probably have to make a vanilla frosting or something that is not chocolate as my siblings all said it was too chocolatey for them. I personally loved it because I have a slight obsession with chocolate cake which is actually quite strange because I don’t actually eat chocolate. I decorated this cake with strawberry halves and crushed some nuts for the top. It actually worked out quite well and I was rather pleased with the aesthetic because my cakes aren’t always very visually appealing.

I’m sure if you’re looking at this chocolate sponge cake recipe, you’ve probably made plenty of chocolate cakes before (or maybe you haven’t). Try this one and you won’t have to look any further, I promise. This is a small chocolate cake because obviously I didn’t want the cake to last until the next day because then there are always arguments the next day about who gets it. Even though I did make a smaller cake there was still a slice leftover, which my brother ate before anyone actually found out. According to my brother this tasted better when he had it the next day although that isn’t to say it didn’t taste really good on the day.

Use this chocolate sponge cake recipe for a tasty chocolate cake.
